Week 5 Day 5: Job 40:6 – Job 42; Psalm 29

God continued to question Job after Job committed to being silent. The Lord said that Job had indicated that God was acting out of His very character in relation to Job’s torments (Job 42:8). God then asks Job is he is like God and went on to describe His many attributes including bringing low the proud and punishing the evil. When Job is
able to do as God can do, we will give Job the power to save himself (Job 40: 9-14).

God then goes on to describe the behemoth that He created (Job 40: 15-24). Then the Lord describes the leviathan whom He also created (Job 41: 1-8). These creations lay men low as man cannot control them, yet all that God has created God can control. So why should God answer to man (Job 41: 9-11).

Job acknowledges God’s creations and that God alone has power over all His creations. He further acknowledges that he spoke out of turn about things he did not understand. He now feels he sees God as He is through God’s words and repents for speaking out
of turn (Job 42: 2-6).

God then addresses Job’s friends whom He accused of not speaking the truth about God. As a result, each of the three friends (Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar) were to bring seven bulls and seven rams to Job for burnt offerings. Job would then pray for them, and the Lord accepted their offerings based on the prayer of Job (Job 42: 7-9).
Job was then restored, being given twice of what he had before. All who knew Job came to him and brought him comfort. I addition to livestock, the Lord blessed Job with seven sons and three daughters living 140 years before he died (Job 42: 10-17).

We now turn to Psalm 29, that directs us to ascribe glory to the Lord. The glory is due to God just by his name, and we are to worship the Lord based on His holiness. God’s voice thunders and by his voice all nature responds to Him. He is king forever, and through Him we will find strength and peace.
